Privacy
What this site does with your data
Scientific ML Studio has no accounts, no login and no database. It is a set of static files. In short: what you read and what you build stays in your browser.
Stored on your device
Your reading progress, bookmarks and preferences are kept in this browser's local storage. Your Lab notebooks are kept in this browser's IndexedDB. None of it is sent to us. It stays until you clear this site's data, so use Download notebook in the Lab for anything you want to keep or move to another device.
The Lab runs on your machine
Generating code happens in your browser, in a copy of Python that this site ships to you. Your notebooks and the code they produce are never uploaded.
Videos
Video guides are hosted on YouTube. Nothing is requested from YouTube until you press
play, and then the privacy-enhanced player (youtube-nocookie.com) is used.
Hosting
The site is served by Cloudflare, which, like any web host, may log visitors' IP addresses and request details under its own privacy policy. This site adds no advertising trackers.
The registration form
The first time you use Generate code or Download .py in the Lab, you are asked to register once. If you send it, this is what happens to it:
- What is sent: your full name, email address, affiliation, what you will use the service for (and, if you add it, a line about the work), how you found us, and that you confirmed the usage terms. We also receive your country as reported by the network, and the page you were on. Your IP address is used only as described under “Once only” below; it is never stored as such.
- Where it goes: to a small service on Cloudflare, which checks that you are a person and forwards the details privately to the site owner (by message, email and/or a private spreadsheet) and keeps them in a private database so the owner can count registrations and reply to you. It is not published, shared or sold.
- Why: We use this to understand who uses the platform and to reply about permissions. It goes privately to the site owner and is never published or sold.
-
Once only: your browser remembers that you registered, so you are not asked
again. That is a small note on your own device; clearing the site's data makes the form appear
again. The service also recognises a repeat of the same email address (it keeps a one-way
fingerprint of it) so the owner is not notified twice.
To spare you the form after you clear your browser data, your browser keeps a random number with no meaning (in local storage, a first-party cookie calledomega_did, and the browser's database). When you register, the service stores a one-way fingerprint of that number; when the same browser comes back, the form is skipped. It holds nothing about you or your computer, your IP address plays no part in it, and clearing all site data or using another browser simply means you are asked once more. This is a convenience for you, not identification. - What it does not do: it does not lock anything. Everything on this site is public, and the Lab runs in your own browser. If the service cannot be reached you can continue without it.
- How long, and deletion: the owner keeps it for as long as it is needed for the purpose above. To see, correct or delete yours, write to the site owner.
The contact form
If you use the contact form, your name (optional), email address, subject and message are sent to the same service and forwarded privately to the site owner (by message, email and/or a private database) so that they can reply. They are used only to answer you, and are not published, shared or sold. Your country, as reported by the network, and the page you wrote from are included. To see, correct or delete a message, write to the site owner.
